Club History

The Taunton Muskets was formed in 2013 with the help of a local coach, who helped form the nearby Exeter Spitfires, some enthusiastic rookies and a couple of veteran players looking for a new challenge.

Starting out with ten or so regular players during the off season, the club managed to recruit well and secured a place in the South West Baseball League in April 2014. It was an eventful first year and thanks to some experience on the mound the Muskets secured third spot in the league in their debut season. On the eve of the 2015 season the club made the decision to create a second team due to player numbers and thus the Taunton Musketoons was born.

The two teams had differing fortunes in 2015. While the Musketoons struggled in the league, the game time proved valuable for many new players. The Muskets secured the club's first league championship trophy. Success on the field saw the club continue to grow and the Muskets continued to dominate in the South-West, again taking the league title in 2016.

Away from league competition, the Muskets sent a team to London to compete in the London Tournament hosted by the Croydon Pirates, winning the overall tournament. Future years saw Taunton remain a strong force within the SWBL, narrowly missing on the title in both 2017 and 2018.

In 2020, unusual for its off the field events, was a new experience on the field for the Muskets, seeing them entering the British Baseball Federation's national tournament at Single A level, of which they finished a very respectable 3rd amongst teams in the south of England.

2021

the Muskets finished second in their division – narrowly missing out on making it to the Single A finals once again.

2022

It was a good year for the muskets. they saw a lot of new members join the ranks. And although they missed the playoffs, it was only by a small run difference. the team showed great determination and growth in 22, and it defintitely was a year for the rookies with 3 receiving awards at the end of the season. Gemma O'Toole for 'Most Improved', Paul Wilson for 'Rookie of the Year', and Fumi Yasuhara for 'Golden Glove'.
